What is Workers’ Compensation?
Workers’ compensation is insurance that provides medical and cash benefits for workers injured directly from their jobs.
Employers pay for this insurance, not employees. In fact, employers are not permitted to require employees to contribute to the cost of compensation. Weekly cash benefits and medical care are paid by the employer’s insurance carrier, as directed by the California Workers’ Compensation Board. The California Workers’ Compensation Board is a state agency that processes claims. If Board intervention is necessary, it will determine whether that insurer will be reimbursed for medical and/or care cash benefits, and the amounts payable.
What if I’m injured on the job?
Step 1. Immediately report the injury to your employer.
Step 2. Check to make sure your employer documents the injury.
Step 3. Contact a local workers’ compensation attorney to file your claim.
Step 4. Get a doctor’s evaluation to determine the fair amount of benefits you are entitled to.
What are examples of accidents that are covered by Workers’ Compensation Insurance?
1. Bone fractures.
2. Muscle sprains, strains, and tears.
3. Slips and falls.
4. Cuts and punctures.
5. Being struck by an object or equipment.
6. Electrocution.
7. Head injuries.
8. Loss of limbs.
9. Wrongful death.
10. Neck or bank pain injury.
Remember: This is just the beginning of your journey. Consulting with multiple attorneys and finding one who resonates with your needs and personality is crucial.
